Public Health England has reiterated that an investigation is underway into cases of listeria linked to NHS sandwiches, after the number of deaths linked to the outbreak having reached six.
The latest death, after a patient acquired listeriosis from The Good Food Chain products while at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was one of the nine cases previously confirmed and PHE said there had been no new cases linked to the outbreak.
The Good Food Chain, which supplied 43 NHS trusts in the UK as well as one independent provider, voluntarily ceased production.
Public Health England continues to test all samples of listeria on an ongoing basis to check if they are linked to this outbreak. To date, we have tested 34 samples and none are linked to the outbreak.
PHE said the health risk to the public remains low.

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
