Manifesto for Better Mental Health launched

The Mental Health Policy Group has launched the Manifesto for Better Mental Health, urging the new Prime Minister to establish a clear direction for mental health policy.

The Mental Health Policy Group is a coalition of six organisations working together for better mental health, including the Mental Health Network, Mind, and the Centre for Mental Health.

With Boris Johnson now in post in 10 Downing Street, the coalition wants to make sure that mental health remains high on the agenda, despite the prominence of Brexit. This manifesto focuses on five key asks: taking action to prevent mental illness; creating a cross-government plan for mental health and establishing a ‘mental health in all policies’ approach across government; reforming the Mental Health Act; ensuring that everyone can access the right mental health support, in the right place, at the right time; and building a mental health workforce fit for the future.

The group want to see the new government re-commit to the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan as well as a funding settlement post 2020 which will provide vital increases in investment for mental health services.
