NHS Resolution has revealed that the Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practice (CNSGP) will bring general practitioners (GPs) in line with their hospital colleagues.
As of 1 April, those working in general practice will be automatically covered in relation to NHS services. The CNSGP is centrally funded, meaning that those working in general practice do not need to make any payments to benefit from indemnity.
The start of April also saw the launch of a dedicated claims helpline for GPs and those working in general practice operating 24/7, 365 days a year.
Helen Vernon, chief executive at NHS Resolution, said: "The Clinical Negligence Scheme for General Practice (CNSGP) provides us with a unique opportunity to bring information on claims from both general practice and secondary care under one roof, so that we can share what is learnt for the benefit of all patients and those who care for them."
The announcement on general practice indemnity is included in Investment and evolution: A five-year framework for GP contract reform, agreed by NHS England and the British Medical Association which was published on 31 January 2019.

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
