There were 23.8 million attendances to A&E departments in England last year, marking a two per cent increase on the year previous and a concerning 22 per cent increase since 2008-09.
NHS Digital’s Hospital Accident and Emergency Activity 2017/18 reveals that there has been an average growth per year over the period since 2008-09 of two per cent, compared with the England population average growth of one per cent per year over a similar period.
Drawing together data from Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) with NHS England’s A&E Attendances and Emergency Admissions Monthly Situation Reports (MSitAE), NHS Digital shows that Monday is the busiest day of the week and the most popular time of arrival is between 10am and midday and that Saturday and Sunday have the highest proportion of attendances of patients re-attending A&E within seven days, with Saturday highest at 9.1 per cent.
Furthermore, the number of reattendances to A&E within seven days was 1,800,000 and accounted for 8.6 per cent of all reported attendance and, of equal concern, there were around twice as many A&E attendances for the 10 per cent of the population living in the most deprived areas compared with the least deprived 10 per cent.

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
