Female NHS staff earn quarter less than males
NHS Digital data has revealed that female NHS staff in England earn nearly a quarter less than their male colleagues, excluding bonuses an overtime pay.
The figures show that the average full-time female worker is paid £28,702 a year in basic salary, compared to the £37,470 average pay for men. This represents a gap of more than 23 per cent. Looking at a more detailed breakdown, it shows that male doctors are paid an average of £67,788 in basic pay, compared to the £57,569 female doctors receive. This represents a gap of 15 per cent.
The figures follow news earlier this year that 6.5 times as many male consultants as female received the top platinum bonus worth £77,000 a year.
