Homeless addicts admitted to hospital increases

A BBC investigation has found that over 21,000 homeless people have been admitted to hospital with drink and drug addictions over the past three years.

Freedom of Information requests to 145 hospital trusts in Britain and Northern Ireland found that nearly 11,000 people of no fixed abode were admitted to hospital suffering from alcohol-related issues since 2014, as well as more than 8,500 people with drug problems.

The figures also revealed that the number of people admitted to hospital with drug-related problems has increased from about 2,500 in 2014 to more than 3,100 in 2016.
