PHE stresses importance of flu jab
As NHS leaders prepare for a pressurised winter period, Public Health England (PHE) has highlighted the importance of being vaccinated against the flu.
Both Australia and New Zealand have experienced what has been described as a ‘heavy flu season’.
Speaking recently at the NHS Expo in Manchester, NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens told delegates that the ‘top priority for every NHS leader is ensuring that the NHS goes into winter in as strong a position as possible’.
PHE said: “It’s too early to know which will be the dominant strains of flu to circulate in England this forthcoming winter (and to predict its impact). Each year the World Health Organization reviews the circulating strains of flu and recommends which flu strains should go in the vaccine. It’s really important that as many eligible people as possible get their jab which is the best way to protect everyone from flu.”
