A new sustainable development campaign for the NHS, health and social care is to be delivered by NHS Employers.
The Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) has announced that NHS Employers has been awarded a three-year contract to deliver the Sustainable Health and Care Campaign and Awards, which will feature a range of engagement activities and an awards programme.
NHS Employers will work with the SDU to support the sector in raising the profile of interventions that deliver health, efficiency, environmental and social benefits across the NHS, public care and social care. It will offer a great opportunity for health and social care organisations to come together to recognise, promote and reward effective sustainable practice and behaviours.
The partnership will raise the profile of essential work completed by NHS and other health and care organisations over the last few years, which include events like Sustainability Day and Clean Air Day.
Danny Mortimer, chief executive of NHS Employers, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us, and we look forward to working in partnership with the Sustainable Development Unit to raise the profile of sustainability across the NHS and wider health sector - and to celebrate the good work that is already underway. As we look to make sure the NHS can continue to thrive for another 70 years, sustainability is more important than ever, and the aims of this project are closely aligned with our own core values.
“We will work hard to ensure that this partnership is a success, and that we are able to contribute to a greener, more sustainable health and care services, providing excellent patient care for generations to come.”
David Puncheon, director of the Sustainable Development Unit, said: “We’re very excited about this new campaign and partnership. It’s a hugely important opportunity to recognise the great work already being done by organisations across the NHS, health and social care system – and support further action. The expertise, experience and reach of NHS Employers will be vital in helping to promote and embed sustainability as an aspect of quality in socially, economically and environmentally accountable health and care systems.”
