Sugary drink levy to fund mental health in schools

Education Secretary Justine Greening has said that the levy on sugary drinks will provide £415 million, which will be allocated to schools to help with facilities for mental health.

Announced in the 2016 Budget, the soft drinks industry levy is expected to provide £415 million for schools in 2018-19 to promote healthier lifestyles and tackle childhood obesity, providing capital funding to support facilities for sports, after-school activities and to encourage healthy eating.

All state-funded primary and secondary schools and sixth forms will receive a slice of the sports levy, but there will also be a bidding process for funding for specific projects.
