Cold snacks will return to the menus at Shropshire’s two acute hospitals after the trust sourced a new supplier.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which runs the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, saw its former supplier withdraw its service when NHS bosses admitted they could not afford to pay its bill and requested they ‘temporarily alter the timescale for payments until the next financial year’.
The dispute left patients and visitors at both hospitals without the option of the cold snacks.
However, despite not naming the new supplier or how or when they intend to pay the new firm for the food, the trust has confirmed that patients on wards will be offered sandwiches and salads from Wednesday 1 February, with the new catering options expected to go on sale in the hospitals’ restaurants the week following.
Simon Wright, chief executive at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, said: “I am delighted we have been able to address the issue quickly so that our patients, their families and our staff will once again be able to enjoy the full range of meals we have on offer at our hospitals. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused over the past three weeks.”

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
