Norfolk GPs will be offering thousands more appointments to see a GP or nurse practitioner in a bid to help cope with the rise in illnesses during the winter period.
The majority of practices will be offering three or four extra 'on the day' appointments, between now and early March 2017, with Norfolk expected to offer 12,000 additional appointments.
Dr Simon Cooke, of 'OneNorwich' alliance commented: “GP Practices are doing their bit to help a growing number of patients who feel unwell because of winter - and help ease the pressure on the wider NHS that it is always under.
“Many people are turning to casualty as a first port of call for their healthcare, and this is just really to try and give people more of an opportunity to see us in primary care - rather than go to hospital.”
