A new app developed by the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust has been created to help patients in North Wales receive live information on waiting times at the nearby A&E departments and Minor Injuries Units.
The app, ‘Live Wait Times’, allows people quickly access the opening times of departments, contact details, directions to the different units, and an outline of the services provided by them.
North Wales is the first area to sign up to the app.
Nigel Lee, of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, commented: “With the winter upon us we know that our Emergency Departments are going to be incredibly busy over the next three months, dealing with many people who are seriously ill. This can mean that people whose conditions are not urgent can face long waits to be seen.
“But the NHS in Wales offers many ways to get healthcare quickly - local pharmacists are qualified health professionals who can advise on treatments for many common illnesses using simple ‘over-the-counter’ remedies, while our minor injuries units are a way for people who have suffered less-serious injuries to get the care they need.
“This app is a great way for people who have been injured to work out where is the best place to go to get seen with a minimum of delay.”

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
