NHSBT in organ donor register campaign

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) have launched a Christmas campaign to get more people to sign up to the organ donor register.

NHSBT figures show that more than 6,500 people, including 150 children, are waiting for a replacement organ in the UK. Moreover, in the last year 463 people have died waiting for a transplant.

Despite only a third of people in the UK having joined the NHS Organ Donor Register, polls have suggested that 81 per cent are in favour of organ donation.

Sally Johnson, director of Organ Donation and Transplantation, said: "Signing up to the NHS Organ Donor Register is one thing we know people often just haven`t got around to doing. This Christmas, we are asking everyone who supports organ donation to take just a few minutes of their time online to show that support by joining the NHS Organ Donor Register."

If you want to join the register, you can do so by visiting the NHS Organ Donor Register website www.organdonation.nhs.uk
