Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Northumberland County Council (Northumbria) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Indo UK Healthcare Pvt Ltd (IUHP), to share expertise in integrated care.
The agreement will see the Trust and IUHP share NHS expertise as India aspires to achieve the same high standards of care as Northumberland. The project aims to help accelerate the development of integrated care outside hospital. It aligns with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of delivering affordable healthcare for all.
The Trust’s model creates a seamless experience for patients by integrating: acute hospitals (including emergency services); community services; and care delivered at home.
Daljit Lally, the Deputy Chief Executive of Northumberland County Council, who has a formal joint role with both the council and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted to work with IUHP and to be able to share what we have learned from the strong partnership we have developed between the NHS and social care, over many years, here in Northumberland.
“India has one of the largest populations in the world so the pressures on its healthcare system are enormous. Whilst our primary goal is to share how we have developed such a pioneering approach to delivering integrated care in Northumberland, I have no doubt that we will also learn a great deal which will benefit the NHS.”
Dr Ajay Rajan Gupta, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive of IUHP commented: “This is an important milestone in our vision to transform the health of millions of Indian citizens. Northumbria provides outstanding high-quality integrated health and social care for its residents. This is exactly the experience we need to take forward our own plans.
“We want to take the very best that the NHS has to offer across to India and there is no doubt Northumbria is the best at what it does.”

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
