Swansea welcomes £6.6m cardiac unit

Morrison Hospital in Swansea has welcomed a £6.6 million extension to its cardiac intensive care unit, in a move that aims to reduce surgery waiting times.

The extension will add four more critical care beds, and comes after Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board warned that longer waiting times had been partly due to a lack of beds available for people after surgery.

Welsh Health Secretary Vaughan Gething commented: “I’m pleased that more people will be able to benefit from high quality care closer to home.”

"We have made progress in reducing cardiac waiting times and are now investing to increase capacity in Wales."
