IHM introduces new professional development programme

The programme comprises a Post Graduate Certificate in Health Service Leadership and 12 Master Classes. The new programme has been developed to improve professional health and care management across the UK and forms part of the IHM’s professional development portfolio.

The Post Graduate Certificate programme explores the responsibilities of taking a proactive role in service innovation and improvements which inform education strategy within an organisation and can ultimately influence the transformation of care services and commissioning.

The course comprises 52 weeks of full or part-time learning utilising online learning, face-to-face delivery and one-to-one tutor support.

The one day Master Classes cover a range of skills needed by healthcare managers. Each is led by a practitioner in the relevant field from BBP University’s faculty. They include: Introduction to Leadership and Management; Leading Change Effectively in the NHS; Courtroom Witness Skills; and Finance for Non-Finance Managers.

Keith Oliver, chair of IHM East Midlands said: “I welcome the valuable contribution that these educational and training programmes will make in helping to equip healthcare managers with the skills and insight required to respond to the ever increasing challenges facing them in the current healthcare landscape.”

Heather Davison, director of education, training & development at IHM said: “The programmes have been developed in response to research we conducted to understand current needs in the healthcare manager market place.  The research revealed that more than ever today’s managers and leaders need and want topical and practical continuing professional development opportunities to help them in their day to day role.  Importantly they are looking for these CPD opportunities to come from a respected professional body. Our new programmes do just that.”
