Prime Minister set to announce plans for seven day health service

Cameron will reaffirm the Conservative’s commitment to provide an extra £8 billion in funding to the NHS, as outlined in their manifesto, to ensure that the NHS will be in safe hands for “every generation to come”.

As part of this increased funding a GP access fund will be expanded to ensure that more seven-day access will be available through local doctor’s surgeries. The funding will also be shared out across hospitals to ensure care is available to patients “wherever they are and whenever they need it”.

George Osborne, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, hasn’t offered specific details of how the Government will provide the increased funding, but claimed “we can make this commitment because we’ve got the track record and a plan to grow our economy”. Osbourne is expected to give first details in a budget next month before a spending review in the autumn.
