GPs will contact patients individually as care.data is relaunched

The NHS England’s flagship care.data sharing scheme was originally set to commence in February 2014 but was halted after concerns emerged that patients had not been properly informed with two-thirds of patients claiming they did not receiving a leaflet informing them about scheme.

The schemes relaunch will use information from 104 practices across Somerset, Blackburn with Darwen once GP’s have sufficiently informed patients that their medical information will be shared unless they opt out of the scheme.

A statement released on behalf of NHS Blackburn and Darwen CCG said:‘Extraction is likely to take place between September and November depending on how fair processing testing communications was conducted.  GP systems are currently undertaking the work required for extraction to take place.’
