Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, has recently opened a new £2.4 million cancer centre and has begun accepting patients for treatment.
The centre includes private consulting rooms and a support centre and aims to bring together all cancer services offered at the hospital by 2017.
The new building will offer more room for patients, their loved ones and staff to interact with privacy.
Commenting on the opening, Corin Prunty, divisional head of nursing at the hospital, said: “I am delighted that the new centre will offer much improved facilities for our critically-ill patients, their families and our staff. As one of the only hospitals to offer individual rooms, patients and their families will benefit from more privacy and enhanced infection prevention.
“In addition to this, the centre will benefit from a sophisticated lighting system, specifically designed to help reduce delirium which can be common in patients receiving intensive care treatment. There will also be much better facilities for our dedicated staff. These include a seminar room, increased storage and the addition of an on-call room to provide instant access to clinical expertise.”

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
