CNWL named top health LGBT-inclusive employer

Five organisations in the health and social care sector have made the Top 100 LGBT-inclusive employers list, compiled by LGBT equality charity Stonewall.

The Top 100 is the UK’s definitive list ranking employers from across public, private and third sectors on how LGBT inclusive their workplaces are. Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) stay at the top of the sector for a second year, climbing 12 places since last year to rank at number 16.

The health sector’s second-highest performing organisation is the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board at number 39. The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the sector’s highest-ranking new entry to the Top 100 list, landing at 40.

Claire Murdoch, chief executive at the trust, said: “This is brilliant news! I’m incredibly proud of our diverse workforce. The work of our LGBT+ Staff Network and our teams and services across our organisation is helping to create a culture where staff feel supported to be themselves at work and open with colleagues and patients. At Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, we are serious about inclusion and we firmly believe that when staff are happy and valued, it’s better for them and for their patients.”

Stonewall research shows that 14 per cent of LGBT employees don’t feel able to be themselves at work and 18 per cent of LGBT people have experienced discrimination when applying for jobs because of their identity.
