Warrington and Halton NHS Foundation Trust ‘requires improvement’

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published a report following up on the findings of previous inspections of Warrington and Halton NHS Foundation Trust in 2015, when CQC rated the trust as ‘requires improvement’ overall.

At Warrington Hospital, medical care, critical care, outpatients and diagnostic services and maternity and gynaecology services were rated ‘requires improvement’. Surgery, urgent care, end of life services and services for children and young people were rated as ‘good’.

At Halton General Hospital, outpatients are diagnostic services were rated as ‘requires improvement’ and medical care, urgent care services and surgery were rated as ‘good’. The overall rating for Halton Hospital slipped from ‘good’ to ‘requires improvement’.

Overall, the trust has been rated ‘requires improvement’, although the trust was rated ‘good’ for caring.

Nicolas Smith, head of hospital inspection in the north, said: “Our latest inspection at Warrington and Halton NHS Foundation Trust has seen some improvements at Warrington Hospital - there had been progress since the previous inspection with improvements noted in urgent and emergency care, maternity, outpatients and diagnostics and critical care.

“The trust is aware of a number of areas where they need to improve and we will continue to work with the trust to ensure that the service continues to improve.”
