Having been the first trust in the country to go from Requires Improvement to Outstanding in 2017, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust has once again been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
The trust is currently one of only seven in the country to have been rated Outstanding twice, and one of only three general acute trusts to achieve this.
In its latest inspection in April, CQC staff praised the organisation for its commitment to patients, noting how 'staff cared for patients with compassion' and the 'feedback from patients was positive'. They also praised the culture of the organisation saying that 'the values and vision for the trust placed people who used services at University Hospitals Bristol at the centre'.
The inspectorate rated the organisation as Outstanding for services being caring and well-led, whether services are effective and responsive are rated as Good, with safe being rated as Requires Improvement. Of the 39 indicators which make up the Trust's overall rating, 35 are rated either Good or Outstanding.
Robert Woolley, chief executive of UH Bristol, said: "I am absolutely delighted that the Trust has been rated Outstanding by the CQC for the second time in a row. Given that the CQC report follows UH Bristol recently being named as a top general acute trust in the national inpatient survey for 2018, this clearly demonstrates that our staff are very special people, doing an exceptional job to provide the best possible care for those who need our services. I'm proud of each and every one of the UH Bristol team and thrilled that their hard work has been recognised."

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
