The Department of Health (DH) has announced that the alcohol industry will be updating the health information on its labels, to reflect the latest scientific evidence.
According to a DH statement, the body worked closely with industry on the guidance for labelling which better reflects the latest advice on alcohol.
The news come after new guidance was published by the UK Chief Medical Officers last year, which aims to help people understand the risks alcohol may pose to their health, as part of the government’s common sense approach to this issue.
Public Health Minister Nicola Blackwood said: “The right to enjoy a drink responsibly is part of our national culture, and we want to ensure that adults have clear information in order to make informed choices.
“This change is industry-led, and I welcome this commitment to giving clear and factual information to consumers.”

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
