Trials of drones delivering medical supplies have had fast-tracked approval to commence given the urgent need during the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this year, the government awarded £28 million to Southampton and Portsmouth to develop a Future Transport Zone. As part of that initiative, £8 million was earmarked for testing drones, and how they might be used for delivering goods in the years and decades ahead. The trial has now been given the green light as part of the government's response to COVID-19.
The trials are to begin next week to carry medical supplies and equipment to St Mary’s Hospital, near Newport on the Isle of Wight.
