An ITV investigation has revealed that hospitals are being forced to suspend acute services, because they don't have enough doctors and nurses.
ITV News asked every NHS trust in England if, over the past 12 months, they have had to suspend any acute services as a result of staff shortages. Sixteen trusts, which equates to one in every seven that responded, admitted to being left no option but to take such extreme measures.
Pinpointed by ITV News, Airedale NHS Trust was highlighted as having suspended maternity services 11 times over 12 months, while East Cheshire suspended maternity services twice and children's wards 19 times.
