Johnson to urge for extra £100m a week for NHS

The BBC has reported that Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is to push for an extra £100 million a week for the NHS in England after Brexit.

Frustrated at Downing Street's lack of action on the NHS funding amid winter pressures, The Times newspaper suggests that any extra money would form a ‘Brexit dividend’ as Johnson warns against ‘abandoning the territory’ ahead of this week’s cabinet meeting.

With cabinet discussions meant to be kept private, it remains unclear how Johnson’s comments will be met, although it is understood that Johnson has not had a direct conversation with Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt about possible planned intervention.

Johnson was at the forefront of the Vote Leave campaign that claimed that £350 million went to the EU each week, and that the same amount of money could instead go to the NHS.
