NHS Improvement will automatically collect daily situation reports (SitRep) from all NHS trusts from October 2017, aiming to save the NHS thousands of hours each year.
The system, which works with all NHS applications, places a server on to systems that automatically ‘pulls’ information from databases, removing the need for hospitals to export and upload the data manually.
The system can also be used to populate an emergency care dashboard, giving trusts further insight into how patients flow through emergency departments, allowing them to put targeted plans in place to remove or reduce delays within the system and provide NHS Improvement targeted support to trusts that need it most.
The Emergency Care Improvement Programme (ECIP) has already successfully seen the system implemented in over 40 trusts.
Jim Mackey, chief executive of NHS Improvement, said: “We know that manually uploading data places a large burden on trusts, and we wanted to develop something that reduces that burden, while also providing trusts with something in return.
“This new system, which will be in place for all trusts from October 2017, provides trusts with up to date information about patient flow through A&E, to help them identify and make improvements to their systems. It will also help us to provide targeted support to trusts during the winter period.”

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
