Pay rise for 1.3 million staff expected soon
The BBC has reported that approximately 1.3 million NHS staff, including nurses, porters and paramedics, could expect pay increases of over six per cent over three years.
Costing roughly £4 billion, the tiered agreement, which will see the lowest paid staff receiving the biggest annual rises, could apply almost immediately, if agreed by unions and ministers.
Covering all staff on the Agenda for Change contract, which is the entire workforce except doctors, dentists and senior leaders, it has been reported that those on the lowest salaries could see their pay rise by £4,000 and it is believed that the deal guarantees a minimum rise of 6.5 per cent, although some higher rises are expected.
It had previously been reported that NHS workers may have to give up a day's holiday in return for bigger rises, but this has since been rejected by unions.
The NHS Staff Council, which represents 14 unions, is due to meet to rarify the deal, although the BBC understands that they are happy with the offer.
