Matt Hancock has said that more than six companies have made ventilator prototypes, with the equipment ready to be in the NHS within ‘a matter of days’.
The Health Secretary said the response from manufacturers to the government's call for ventilators have been ‘unbelievable’ and that there was now a ‘massive operation’ to ensure that hospitals have the life-saving kit they need to tackle the coronavirus.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Hancock also insisted that a ‘lorry-load’ of protective equipment for NHS workers is also being sent out to every hospital in the country this weekend, saying that the government was ensuring that the kit was being ‘distributed at pace’.
