Wigan council tackles child obesity

Wigan council has launched a new fully-funded eighteen month fitness programme in a bid to tackle childhood obesity.

The move involves inviting children who are experiencing weight problems onto an 18-month programme which encourages exercise through play and offers nutrition lessons to both children and their parents.

So far, results from the scheme have been positive, with many children being able to shed excess weight and gain confidence in the process.
