NHS chief executive Amanda Pritchard has responded to the chancellor's autumn statement yesterday.
The statement included an extra £3.3 billion for the NHS budget in each of the next two years, though the chancellor called on the NHS to tackle waste and inefficiency.
Pritchard welcomed the chancellor's decision to prioritise the NHS with funding for cost pressures and to help staff deliver care at a time when the country is facing such daunting pressures.
She highlighted the work that is already being done in the NHS including 10 per cent more GP appointments that before Covid and higher levels of cancer checks, as well as new and innovative treatments.
Pritchard said: "While I am under no illusions that NHS staff face very testing times ahead, particularly over winter, this settlement should provide sufficient funding for the NHS to fulfil its key priorities. As ever, we will act with determination to ensure every penny of investment delivers for patients."

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
