Royal Derby A&E best in the country
The Royal Derby Hospital’s accident and emergency team has been named ‘Emergency Department Clinical Team of the Year’ by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM).
The awards, which are taking place in Liverpool, showcase excellence and celebrate success in emergency care.
This is the second major national accolade for the Derby A&E team, which sees an average of 400 patients every day.
Gavin Boyle, Derby Teaching Hospital’s chief executive, said: “We are really proud of our emergency department team here in Derby who deliver the highest quality care, even when faced with record demand.
“This award means that our A&E staff have been judged to be the very best in the country on the 50th anniversary of emergency medicine, and that is a tremendous achievement.”
Dan Boden, assistant clinical director at the Royal Derby Hospital, added: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. Despite the well-recognised challenges faced in emergency care nationally our ethos has remained clear - putting patient care at the heart of all that we do. This was at the forefront of our award application and was evident to those on the judging panel.
“The award is fantastic recognition for Derby Teaching Hospitals and for the community of Derby that we serve. However, perhaps most important of all, this is for our amazing staff. Day after day they give their all to ensure that we give the best care we possibly can. This award is for them."
