NHS Digital and Microsoft sign cyber security agreement

NHS Digital has signed a new agreement with Microsoft that will provide support in detecting cyber threats to IT systems relying on outdated operating systems.

This includes all existing Windows devices operating with Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and SQL 2005, seeking to prevent ‘malware infection across the NHS’.

A NHS Digital spokeswoman said that the contract, which runs until the middle of next year, will provide NHS Digital with a ‘centralised, managed and coordinated framework for the detection of malicious cyber activity through its enterprise threat detection software’.

May’s WannaCry malware attack struck 20 per cent of NHS trusts.
