Whipps Cross University Hospital rated inadequate
London's Whipps Cross University Hospital has been rated ‘Inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for its surgery, diagnostics and outpatient care.
Run by Barts Health NHS Trust, the hospital, which was placed in special measures last year over care quality concerns, was seen to be working under a culture of bullying and inequality, while a lack of compassion towards patients nearing the end of their lives was also raised as a concern.
In terms of performance, the CQC expressed concerns over high bed occupancy, a continued failure to meet national A&E waiting time targets and there being no dedicated safety room in the emergency department for patients with psychiatric conditions.
NHS Improvement has been working to improve management at the trust, which serves 2.5 million people in east London, since it was placed in special measures.
