Zika virus diagnosis for Northern Irish patients

Several people from Northern Ireland have been diagnosed with the Zika virus, which the World Health Organization has declared a global public health emergency.

The BBC has reported confirmation from the The Public Health Agency that fewer than five people have been treated in local health trusts for the disease in Northern Ireland.

There have been 117 confirmed cases of the Zika virus in the UK since the outbreak last year.

The infection, spread primarily by bites from the Aedes mosquito, has been linked to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains.
