90 per cent concerned about ability to cope this winter

An NHS Confederation poll of over 130 senior leaders has found that over 90 per cent are ‘concerned’ about their organisation's ability to cope this winter, with 62 per cent of these ‘extremely concerned’.

As a result, the NHS Confederation has called for a comprehensive government review of services, how much they will cost and how they will be funded.

Niall Dickson, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, warned of additional pressures on the system, with the combination of a serious flu attack and bad weather adding to the high pressures of high bed occupancy and delayed transfers.

This follows an article in The Times in which Dickson urged Chancellor Philip Hammond to revisit funding allocations up to 2020 in his Autumn Budget to avoid a cycle of crises.
