Midland Met Hospital £850,000 contract with Innova

Innova Care Concepts has announced that it has won a £850,000 contract to supply hoisting systems to the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Birmingham.

The deal means Innova will be providing a total of 277 hoist units across 313 rooms, including coverage over 44 multi-bed bays and 336 bariatric rooms.

It is thought to be the second largest hoisting contract ever made in the UK.

Innova's hoisting systems will provide comfortable, safe transfers for patients across the hospital, with some units capable of lifting up to 382kg to suit the needs of bariatric patients as well.

The contract was secured because of Innova’s curtain solution which allows a hoist unit to be shared between beds and pass over curtain rails with ease.

Bob Oliver, hoisting specialist at Innova, said: “The Midland Met Hospital project is an outstanding achievement for Innova as it highlights to the global healthcare industry that our innovative solutions are key to solving the challenges that this sector has faced for years.

“The client wanted hoists that could be used for standard in and out of bed transfers, but also for physiotherapy and other activities that traditional hoisting systems don’t always cater to. With 669 acute care beds, Midland Met needed numerous hoisting systems that could facilitate safe lifts for every patient, and we have developed exclusive equipment that can do just that.”

Emma Loosley, senior commissioning manager at Midland Metropolitan Hospital, said: “Innova’s innovative design solution was able to meet the challenge of coordinating the ceiling track with the curtains around the bed space whilst maintaining patient privacy and dignity. By sharing motor units between bed spaces, the Trust is minimising the impact for patients within that space, it also means fewer motor units to maintain and test annually.”
