Global recruitment strategy set to be launched

A leak seen by The Times claims that the NHS is about to start a global recruitment drive to recruit tens of thousands of foreign nurses over the next five years.

In an attempt to fill a void of 40,000 skilled workers and an understanding that the NHS needs to rapidly increase international recruitment, NHS Improvement will target 5,000 new foreign nurses each year until 2024 to fill the NHS workforce crisis.

According to the newspaper, the plan acknowledges that the move is unlikely to end the shortages in the next five years, but instead estimates that the planned changes will reduce the shortfall to 38,800 by 2024.
