Junior contract will be imposed, Hunt says
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has confirmed the junior doctor contract will be imposed, following the profession’s rejection of the terms, after 58 per cent of British Medical Association (BMA) members voted against accepting the deal.
Hunt has said that while he is disappointed members voted to reject the offering, doctors would start moving on to the contract in the coming months, with most of the profession on it by autumn next year.
The news comes after BMA junior doctor leader Dr Johann Malawian has resigned when the result of the vote was announced. While the BMA still has a mandate to take strike action, it will be up to a new junior doctor leader to decide what the next steps are.
