Joint letter sent to Prime Minister on NHS funding

A joint letter sent from the Nuffield Trust, The King's Fund and The Health Foundation has reiterated that the NHS needs a real terms funding increase of around four per cent a year as a minimum to prevent further deterioration in standards of patient care.

Outlining important issues for future funding plans, the letter to Theresa May also highlighted that funding increases, which should be based on the Department for Health and Social Care’s budget rather than NHS England’s budget, must be accompanied by reform to ensure it delivers services that meet changing population needs.

Joining recent calls over immigration controls, the three organisations also stress that visa controls need to be relaxed to recruit more staff from overseas, suggesting that a 10 year workforce strategy must go hand-in-hand with the new funding settlement.
