Doctors in Jersey are set to receive a pay rise of four per cent following BMA negotiations.
Negotiations started last summer between the Jersey local negotiating committee (LNC) and the States Employment Board. The LNC originally submitted a pay claim for five per cent, arguing that doctors’ pay has not kept up with rising costs of living.
The increase was rejected, which led to conciliation talks and a ballot of doctors that gained a strong mandate for industrial action.
Andrew Woodward, LNC member, confirmed that the States Employment Board met on 1 February and agreed to the deal, which in turn has averted the proposed industrial action.
120 doctors on the island will benefit from the pay increase, which will appear on doctors’ February salary payments.

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
Their concern rose with discovery the flame retardant paints most widely used paint along escape routes have been ones which to this day counter-productively use emission of heavy toxic gas to smother flames which rapidly spread along walls if layers of paint delaminate in a fire.
