The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges has criticised the proposed series of five-day junior doctor strikes as ‘disproportionate’ and too late notice.
Junior doctors are preparing to stage full walkouts from 8:00 to 17:00 on: Monday 12 September to Friday 16 September; Wednesday 5 October to Tuesday 11 October (although the weekend will be covered); Monday 14 November to Friday 18 November; and Monday 5 December to Friday 9 December.
However, in statement, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges said: "We know there are genuine concerns about the contract and working arrangements, but we do not consider the proposed strikes are proportionate.
"Five days of strike action, particularly at such short notice, will cause real problems for patients, the service and the profession."
In addition, Katherine Murphy, of the Patients Association, has urged junior doctors to call off the strikes, claiming she was ‘gravely concerned’ about the impact a five day strike could have on vulnerable patients.

UK Building Regulations highlight toxic gas and smoke from layers of paint built up over multiple redecorations as a major cause of permanent ill health or death in a building fire.
