Alcohol related deaths rise by four per cent

In 2014 there was an increase of four per cent on deaths which were related to the consumption of alcohol, according to HSCIC.

The Health and Social Care Information Centre revealed that there were 6,831 deaths in 2014 related to alcohol consumption, a four per cent increase on 2013, and a 13 per cent increase on 2004.

There were also 1.1 million estimated admissions where an alcohol-related disease, injury or condition was the primary reason for admission or a secondary diagnosis, which is three per cent more than 2013/14, with men accounting for nearly two thirds of admissions.

Additionally, there were 333 thousand estimated admissions where an alcohol-related disease, injury or condition was the primary diagnosis or there was an alcohol-related external cause. This is similar to 2013/14 and 32 per cent higher than 2004/05.
